What should I prepare for my author site?
Start with your author bio and current work. If you have published books, gather their covers, descriptions, and buying links. You can add articles, notes, and reader signup as you go.
Can I use Stead for an approaching deadline?
You can start with your author page and the work you want to share now. Every plan includes one private 30-minute setup session, which you can use to work through a launch blocker. Session availability and how much you need to prepare affect timing; there is no guaranteed same-day setup.
Can I use my own domain?
Every plan includes a Stead address. New custom-domain connections require Studio and are in early access. Setup is assisted: we prepare DNS records, you add them at your domain provider, and we verify the connection. An already connected domain stays connected if you change plans while your membership remains active.
How does reader signup work?
SendFox connects for signup and newsletter sending. EmailOctopus connects for signup, and you send from EmailOctopus. For other providers, use a hosted signup-page link or supported HTML form. Forms requiring scripts or iframes cannot run on Stead.
Can I bring my existing writing?
You can copy writing into the editor and add your books through the Books dashboard.
What happens if I cancel?
Your site stays online until your paid period ends. You then have 30 days to reactivate or download your work before saved site content is permanently deleted. Your account remains available for sign-in and billing.
What happens when I click “Start my author site”?
You'll create an account and verify your email, then review payment details. You're charged only when you confirm. A site address is reserved after you create and verify your account.
